In For a Dime…

Posted on 2007-01-10

…in for a dollar. I’ve been blogging about zigGIS a lot (more than I had planned to, really). So, today, I joined the project. If you go to the site, you’ll see “bill” listed as one of the project owners. That’s me. I had a long IM session with Paolo today and there’s a lot…

zigGIS Update

Posted on 2007-01-10

Paolo has posted an update to zigGIS. This update deals more effectively with data layers that have an SRID associated (SRID != -1). They now seem to overlay well. On-the-fly reprojection is still not working but he is working on it. Archaeogeek recently posted about some issues getting zigGIS to work.

zigGIS Installer

Posted on 2007-01-04

Paolo has created an installer for zigGIS and has also posted an installation guide. He has packaged together all of the correct versions of the supporting components so it solves the problems I described in an earlier post. I would highly recommend using the installer to get started.

It seems this is quickly turning into the zigGIS blog. Anyway, it appears that Paolo Corti has assumed the role of project lead on zigGIS and has moved it to Google Code. I’m excited because I think this is a great project and this should keep it moving forward. There’s also a group for discussing…

zigGIS and Spatial References

Posted on 2006-12-21

I’m still playing around with zigGIS and I have noticed that it doesn’t seem to play well when I define the spatial reference of a data set in PostGIS. Any data set that has a defined spatial reference fails to draw in ArcMap. In addition, the layer properties always indicate that the coordinate system is…

PostGIS and ArcGIS 9.1

Posted on 2006-12-17

I’ve been intrigued for some time by an open-source (GPL) project out there called zigGIS. It is a C# project that enables a direct read of PostGIS by ArcGIS. It is intriguing for a couple of reasons. First is the promise of reading directly from PostGIS and working with your data in ArcMap without the…
