ZigGIS Catalog Objects

Posted on 2007-07-27

Things have been REALLY slow on zigGIS for a while. All of us (Paolo, Abe, me) have all been up to our eyeballs with work, leaving little time to work on the zig. Now that Abe is out on his own, the three of us have been trying to coordinate a chat session to lay…

zigGIS and Spatial References, Part 3

Posted on 2007-05-08

This post updates this post and this one. One of our beloved 5 users ;-), James, pointed out recently that zigGIS still has issues with user-defined coordinate systems. Alas, this is true. When we implemented support for on-the-fly “reprojection,” we limited it to the standard EPSG SRIDs supported by both PostGIS and ArcGIS. This was…

zigGIS 1.2 Is Out

Posted on 2007-03-21

Congratulations to Paolo for getting zigGIS 1.2 out the door. He’s put a lot of work into fixing problems with selections and renderers and making it a much more usable tool. His post contains a list of features implemented at this version and it’s really a huge step forward. I am focusing on developing catalog…

zigGIS 1.1.0.20768 Now Available!

Posted on 2007-02-14

Paolo moves fast! The new installer is available for download at the zigGIS project home. Bear in mind that zigGIS depends on the ArcObjects .NET libraries. A good post on making sure you’ve got them is available here. The last version had over 200 downloads. Please feel free to post feedback at the project site….

zigGIS Update Coming Soon

Posted on 2007-02-13

Things have been a little slow on the zigGIS front for the last few weeks. Both Paolo and I have been incredibly busy at work. We have both made some updates but it’s been hard to pull them together into a coherent release. That’s getting very close now. Enhancements this time around will include: On-the-fly…

zigGIS Update

Posted on 2007-01-10

Paolo has posted an update to zigGIS. This update deals more effectively with data layers that have an SRID associated (SRID != -1). They now seem to overlay well. On-the-fly reprojection is still not working but he is working on it. Archaeogeek recently posted about some issues getting zigGIS to work.

zigGIS Installer

Posted on 2007-01-04

Paolo has created an installer for zigGIS and has also posted an installation guide. He has packaged together all of the correct versions of the supporting components so it solves the problems I described in an earlier post. I would highly recommend using the installer to get started.

zigGIS and Spatial References, Part 2

Posted on 2006-12-29

Update to this post: Another post about zigGIS. I didn’t really intend this blog to be so dominated by zigGIS but that’s certainly the way it’s been thus far. Basically, it’s just really cool and it satisfies my geek nature on a couple of fronts. After posting about the spatial reference issue before, I couldn’t…

zigGIS on Google Code

Posted on 2006-12-27

It seems this is quickly turning into the zigGIS blog. Anyway, it appears that Paolo Corti has assumed the role of project lead on zigGIS and has moved it to Google Code. I’m excited because I think this is a great project and this should keep it moving forward. There’s also a group for discussing…

zigGIS and Spatial References

Posted on 2006-12-21

I’m still playing around with zigGIS and I have noticed that it doesn’t seem to play well when I define the spatial reference of a data set in PostGIS. Any data set that has a defined spatial reference fails to draw in ArcMap. In addition, the layer properties always indicate that the coordinate system is…
